AI is Here… 3 Next Steps for Freelancers
Hopefully, you’ve heard the wake-up call.
Hopefully, you’ve gotten the message that AI is no longer knocking, it has moved in.
With AI, the game’s changing fast. So, what do you do?
First, get your mind right.
Stop resisting and ignoring. Stop over-dramatizing with thoughts of AI as enemy or some kind of tech overlord.
Recognize AI is a tool—your tool. Think of AI like the assistant you didn’t have to recruit and hire—the assistant who doesn’t need time off to eat, sleep, heal, or pick up children from daycare.

Then, start to explore how the technology can benefit your freelance business.
There are AI programs that can improve your research and planning. There are AI programs that allow you to edit audio, video, and writing better and faster.
Tools exist that convert one piece of content into multiple formats, such as scripts, teasers, and social media posts. And admin tasks, like proposals and invoicing? You can get that stuff done so much easier now.
That’s not to say go all in at once.
Start small. Pick one task you dread, have fallen behind on, or where you don’t have the level of skill you’d like, and try an AI tool for it. Most have free versions.
Second, stay curious.
AI’s evolving daily and so are the ways that it’s put to work. The freelancers who’ll thrive are the ones who keep up. Get ahead of the curve, and you’ll really lead the pack.
To do that, spend at least 20-30 minutes a few times a week on tutorials, reading about advancements, and checking out how other creators are using AI and which tools they’re using.
Trust me, clients will notice when your work is sharper, faster, and smarter.

Third, use AI to amplify what makes you unique.
You’re not the only writer, designer, or photographer out there— but you’re the only you!
You have style, perspective, experience, and access that creates a unique mélange that allows you to hit different.
Put more focus on what separates you and use AI tools to help you showcase that while also handling the grunt work— the data crunching, the repetitive edits—so you can pour your energy into the creative elements.
With the growing use of AI, a lot of technical skills are going to become less valuable, if not irrelevant. What you can deliver will be more important than what you know how to do.
So, remember, AI is your assistant, your laborer, your tool. You are the brain behind great things.
