Users Can Now Publish Articles on X

Journalists, bloggers and content creators, you may be interested to know that X has a new capability called Articles, which allows users to publish long-form content.

To be clear, everyone can’t publish Articles, only Premium+ subscribers and verified organizations.

If you’re one of those, you should see an Articles composer in the sidebar on your account, according to the announcement made by X’s @Write account yesterday, March 7.

That composer will allow you to do more than just post longer content.

You’ll have a variety of formatting options, such as bold, italic, and strikethrough text along with bulleted and numbered lists. And you’re Ysupposed to be able to embed images and videos “to enhance your storytelling and add visual interest to your Articles,” @Write explains.

After you publish your long-form X posts, they will appear on your profile in a new Articles tab and they’ll be pushed out to your followers’ timeline like other posts.

Before this, premium subscribers were privy to “longer posts.” Last summer the platform–which was Twitter at the time– boosted the character count of that feature to 25,000, TechCrunch reported. That was the third character increase in 2023.

Now, with Articles, users get over 100,000 characters, or about 15,000 words, says Engadget.

Also, Articles are supposed to be “easily distinguishable thanks to a unique icon and layout, ensuring that your long-form content stands out,” the @Write announcement stated.

X head honcho, Elon Musk, has expressed the desire for creators to publish directly on the platform. Now, creators have a new tool to do it. Time will tell how popular this becomes.

For those who don’t have Premium+, it’s currently $168 a year or $16 a month.

If you try Articles or have tried it, let the rest of us know what you think below in the comment section.
