Freelance Journalists Awarded $100,000

Two freelance journalists, Jaeah Lee of San Francisco and Valeria Fernandez of Arizona, won the American Mosaic Journalism Prize. Each will receive $100,000.

The prize was developed by the Silicon Valley-based Heising-Simons Foundation. It focused on stories about the struggles of U.S. immigrants and others that have been underrepresented or misrepresented, reported Fox News.

Airbnb Named #1 for Freelancers

Kalo’s list of the 50 Best Companies to Freelance For has been released. For 2018, Airbnb wears the crown as the best U.S. company for freelancers. Amazon, Walmart, Google, and IDEO round out the top five. Here’s the list.

Brotherman Comics Goes to the Smithsonian

Brotherman comics was included in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. The series was developed by brothers, Dawud Anyabwile, Guy A. Sims, and Jason Sims in 1990, reported WDBJ7.

GoDaddy Will OFfer Social Media

GoDaddy is buying Main Street Hub, a company that provides small businesses with a “do-it-for-me” service for managing engagement on social networks.

Main Street Hub has teams of photographers, writers, designers, and marketers that manage activity on platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Yelp. The deal will allow GoDaddy to offer their clients a complete suite of “do-it-for-me” capabilities for building an online presence.

Go..Daddy! This is a $125 million deal. Talk about boss moves.

Fiverr Will Make And Co A Free Service

Fiverr, an online marketplace for freelancers, is buying And Co, a startup that offers online tools for freelancers.

Fiverr says it will make And Co’s tools available for free. Those tools include invoicing, time trackers, and payment tracking. The best part…freelancers will be able to use And Co for free if even they don’t use Fiverr, reported Tech Crunch.

Ageless Authors Extended Contest Deadline

Ageless Authors extended the deadline of its writing contest to February 28, 2018.

Travel writer William Rayner died at 88. In addition to writing, he was a watercolorist and served as the editorial business manager of Conde’ Nast for 30 years, reported Page Six.
